Weltevreden River Ranch is a family-owned business with Christian values. Owners Christiaan and Mieke Botha bought the farm in Maasstroom against the Limpopo River, merely 20km from the Botswana Border (Zanzibar) in South Africa, in 2015. Together they turned this game farm into a stud Brahman breeding ranch.

By the end of 2015 they bought their first Brahman breeding group from Willie Becker from Net Die Beste Brahman stud, and later the next year they bought their second breeding group from Llewellyn Labuschagne from R10 Brahmans. Their logo states “the toughest Brahmans” and it’s true! Breeding in the heart of the bushveld, only the toughest Brahmans can survive. They make sure their Brahmans are well taken care of. With almost no grass on the veld, they make their own feed and make sure that every Brahman gets the right amount of food every day. As owners, they make sure to attend as many courses and seminars as possible, to keep up to date on the new technologies and requirements that come from being a stud breeder.
After completing their AI and pregnancy awareness courses in 2017, they started using different top bulls for AI, to improve their herd. Genetics is not the only important thing for them, but having the skill of knowing which set of genes to breed together is just as vital. They aim to improve every new generation to be better than their predecessor and to breed line bred Brahmans that will make a difference in the overall breed, and buyers herds. It’s a great pleasure working with these animals and for them, it’s not just a job, it’s a passion.
